I hung out with an old friend, Chris Bell recently. He said that he really liked my leadership blog posts. He’s the first person who’s said that, so here’s another…
Leaders have a tendency to lead from their personality. Obviously, it would be hard to not lead from our personality. But it gets dangerous when we assume that everyone thinks like we think, and wants what we want.
Most likely you are leading people with a huge array of personalities and backgrounds. Surround yourself with a team of leaders that are DIFFERENT from you and embrace and welcome their different point of view. This won’t always be the easiest, but they will be able to give you valuable insight into other people’s perspectives, so that you do not alienate people who are not like you.
